Terms of use

These terms apply when you use myindiastory.com. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. The service

My India Story lets you mark the places you’ve travelled on maps, plan trips, play travel games and share what you make. It’s free to use. We may add, change or remove features at any time.

2. Your account

• An account is optional. If you create one, give accurate information, keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
• Some features, such as the leaderboard, public profiles, groups, hidden gems and creator handles, need a verified email address or Google sign-in.
• If you’re under 18, use the site with a parent or guardian, who should create any account.

3. What you add

• You keep ownership of what you add: maps, names, photos, notes, hidden gems and bios.
• When you choose to make something public, such as a public profile, a group, a hidden gem or a shared link, you allow us to show it on the site and in link previews so others can see it.
• Only add information about other people, such as family members in family maps, if they would be comfortable with it. Don’t post anyone’s private contact details.
• You’re responsible for what you post. Hidden gems are reviewed before they appear, and we may edit them for clarity.

4. Acceptable use

Please don’t:

• post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or misleading, or use offensive names, handles or group names;
• impersonate someone, or claim a handle to mislead people;
• spam, manipulate leaderboards or verification, or create accounts automatically;
• copy or scrape the site at scale, or try to break, overload or get around its security;
• use the site to collect information about other users.

5. Moderation

We may remove content, reset names or handles, remove people from leaderboards or groups, and suspend or delete accounts that break these terms. If you think we made a mistake, email us.

6. Maps and travel information

• Our maps are simplified for personal travel tracking. Boundaries are approximate. They are not official or survey maps and must not be used for navigation or legal purposes.
• Place descriptions, best times to visit, food, festival dates, distances, travel times and budget estimates are general guidance compiled from public sources. They can be wrong or out of date. Check official sources before you travel, especially for permits, safety and closures.
• Leaderboard numbers are self-reported. “Verified” districts come from photos or location history processed on your own device.

7. Other services

The site links to and relies on services we don’t control, such as Google Maps, Google Firebase, Google Analytics, WhatsApp and Instagram. Their own terms apply when you use them.

8. No warranty

The site is provided “as is”. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can’t promise it will always be error-free, secure or uninterrupted. Keep your own backup using “Backup all my data” on My profile.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, My India Story is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or from relying on its information, including travel plans made with it.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We’ll change the date above, and for significant changes we’ll show a notice on the site. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
